Great Grandma and Grandpa Charleston

Great Grandma and Grandpa Charleston were a unique couple. Walter (aka Ollie) was born in Chicago to Charles W. and Jane Mary (nee Dall) Charleston sometime in 1871. He died in 1931 when Dad was only two. He was buried in Rosehill Cemetery also, but his gravesite has not yet been found because I haven't been to Rosehill since last September. He lived most of his life in Franklin Park, while many of his relatives (Charlestons and Dalls) still lived in the city of Chicago.

I have requested a copy of GGrandpa's death certificate and hope to find out the cause of death and any other relevant information. I do know (from his obituary) that he was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and a mason from Riverside Lodge. I've asked both organizations for information but haven't gotten much luck yet.

Grandma was born Mary Jane Turner (no date found) but went by the name Nan. I'm trying to find out more about Nan and her life by first requesting her death certificate. This might be difficult because I don't know more aout her. She and Ollie were married and then divorced after they had their two children, Frank Trevor (our grandfather) and Joseph. Mom says Nan had the first wall-to-wall carpeting in Franklin Park and also ran a boarding house.

I also know that Nan's parents were Mary Jane (nee Johnston) and Joseph Turner. Mary Jane was born in Providence, Rhode Island and HER grandparents were Alexander and Mary Ann (nee Fitzpatrick) Johnston. Alexander was born in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland and Mary Ann was born in New Foundland. They would have been our GGG Grandparents! In the Johnston/Turner cemetery plot are many of our relatives, including Dad's sisters Virginia and Jean. So now I have formally traced THREE sets of GGG Grandparents.

If you look at John's walls in his house he has a few pictures of Nan and Grandpa Charleston. Nan went all the way to New York City to see her son and his Franklin Park friends off to war. That must've seemed like a long trip back then (WWI).

Ollie was famous for his dance steps and had won many competitions. Rumor was that his frollicking may have caused Nan some heartburn. After they divorced, Nan married a man named George Stark. Most of these people are also buried in Rosehill Cemetary. (Along with the leg of George Stark...answer me that!)
